It’s October, and that means it’s time to dive into our new monthly theme: Self-Promotion. This month, we’re focusing on helping you get your work out there, connect with new readers, and build visibility for your work.
The Challenge: Self-Promotion Bingo
To make this month’s theme extra fun and actionable, we’re rolling out Self-Promotion Bingo!
Think of it as a friendly push to help you tackle a variety of promotional tasks you might have been putting off—or never even thought about! The bingo card is packed with simple but effective self-promotion activities. You can check off as many tasks as you want throughout the month, and if you manage to complete a full row, column, or diagonal, you could win a prize.
What’s on the Bingo Card?
The bingo card has a mix of tasks, from easy, no-brainer actions (like adding a link to your book or project in your email signature) to activities that will push you a little outside your comfort zone (like sharing a video of your behind-the-scenes process, or emailing local schools or libraries to set up an author visit).
It’s about finding the balance between promoting your work in a way that feels authentic and challenging yourself to be visible in new spaces and try some new things.
- Download the Bingo Card: Click here to grab your bingo card. Print it out.
- Start Checking Off Tasks: Throughout the month, complete as many of the tasks as you can. Some tasks might be things you do regularly, while others may take a bit more planning.
- Post a Winning Line: Once you’ve completed a full line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal), share your card with us in the comments of this post or post a screenshot on social media using the hashtag #kidscomicsunite.
- Win a Prize: One lucky participant will receive a package of graphic novels in the mail—because we all need more books, right?
Why This Matters
Promoting your work can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Small steps add up over time. Plus, effective self-promotion is more about sharing your enthusiasm than it is about “selling.” People naturally get drawn to creators who are genuinely excited about their work, and who communicate with the world in an honest, generous way.
This challenge is a way to make that process more approachable (and a little more fun).
So, get your bingo card and start checking off those boxes! Let’s make October the month of sharing a little more of yourself and your stories.
P.S. Even if you don’t get a full bingo, every task you complete is a win.
