Three Bee Honey
Claire’s hive hasn't foraged enough food for the winter, and they’re in trouble! Now Claire, a lonely worker bee, has to keep up with the demands or risk starvation. She must also avoid the other hive’s pesky drones, bee-hunting predators, and the queen’s bossy hive deputy!
When Claire trains her two sisters, a close call with a spider leads them to the forbidden Down Below. They meet other bugs and discover an irresistible music scene, inspiring them to create their own act: “Three Bee Honey.” They become a hit, but there’s a problem: the hive needs them now more than ever. When Claire’s secret is exposed, she risks losing her new friends, her life--even her hive, and she must choose between her love of music and her loyalty to family.

As veteran teachers, we’ve had many interactions with students whose passions clashed with family expectations, so we wanted to explore that tension through story. Moreover, we established our own backyard beehive when we learned about the rapidly declining bee population. That’s when the idea of THREE BEE HONEY struck.
We beekeep as a family, regularly checking our bees and harvesting honey. In fact, the spring of 2021 was very productive for our bees. We harvested over 100 pounds of honey and won 2nd place at the county fair!
Over time, we’ve learned that there was much to admire about bees. We are thrilled at the chance to teach readers about their fascinating world and why bees’ survival is essential in our unpredictable environment.
