Wolves Wanted
Cami never wanted to be a 12-year-old human girl. She had a happy life as a wolf, and she’s determined to return to it. But when her pack won’t take her as a human, she’s adopted by the Boone family. And the Boone family hates wolves.
Cami soon realizes that being human comes with power, and she uses that to prove wolves and humans can coexist. Just as she starts to make progress, she keeps returning to her wolf form, and she can't control when or why.
At a heated town council, she transforms into a wolf. Then, when it seems she will become the town hall's next taxidermy, her new family intervenes. Restored permanently to her wolf form, Cami returns to her pack, leaving a legacy of change with the Boones.

Globally, girls in STEM experience a “leaky pipeline effect”; in elementary school, 90% of girls are enrolled in STEM, but by college graduation, only 27% go into STEM fields. With a daughter in elementary school, I wanted to create a story that creates empathy and interest around a STEM-based topic and protagonist.
I also love Yellowstone National Park, and I even met my spouse there. The reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone is still hotly contested today, but it raises many interesting questions: what happens when humans love the outdoors, but also want to change them? What makes a species invasive or protected, and who gets to decide? Wolves are caught in the literal crosshairs of these questions, and I’m excited to tell their story.
