BUMSTORM

Good clean fart fighting fun is the order of business in this graphic novel for all ages. Humanity has changed, internally at least, after decades of poor food standards. In this brave new world of intestinal mutation, a young boy named Guff Bumstorm has truly superpowered farts and dreams of entering the Heavenly Winds From Below fartial arts tournament. One eventful night he happens across Chu Chompington, a World Hot Dog Eating Competition entrant, while she’s chased by villains. They aren’t her only problem though: stinky smells put her right off her eating game. The fateful pair team up and hit the road in Chu’s swish motorhome where they encounter absurd adversaries, big feelings, and odour-filled adventure around every corner.

My Why:

Manga and its kinetic approach to storytelling lit a fire in me to create my own stories, and I’d like to pass that inspiration on in kind. Initially self-publishing BUMSTORM in single issues at conventions, the response from children and adults alike has been so positive and exciting that I need to push beyond what I can achieve alone and give it a chance to perform on the world stage. I feel its blend of British humour and a more adventure focussed approach to comics bridges a gap that isn’t too well served in the space.
Learning what is and isn’t appropriate for the middle grade market by working on Cartoon Network graphic novel adaptations for BOOM! Studios in the past has allowed me to keep BUMSTORM always clean, but constantly cheeky.
