Wolf House Fables
Raven can’t imagine leaving NYC and her internship at the Bronx Zoo to move to Amsterdam, but now that her mom’s passed, Opa Peter is her only remaining relative. Peter finds common ground by telling her stories from his own teen years during World War II, when his dad worked at Artis, the Amsterdam zoo. Young Peter and little sister Rosie were pulled into the resistance after meeting three people hiding from the Nazis in Artis: Dove, an elegant Jewish lady who spun fairytales out of harrowing events; Cornelius, a revolutionary poet with a fiery temper; and Frank, a U.S. pilot who processed his PTSD through drawing. Wolf House Fables presents a narrative landscape that tests family relationships and pays tribute to the refuge of creativity.

I’ve lived in Amsterdam for 20 years, giving me a unique perspective as an American creator who’s well-versed in Dutch culture. This is a vital time to promote critical thinking in my home country. Cultivating empathy while bridging ideological divides is a challenge we all face these days. Storytelling can create a roadmap for wrestling with these complex topics, and I want to inspire young minds through the themes in this book. I also personally find the history and setting of Artis zoo inspiring and magical. Artis has offered to host a book launch, advise on the work in development, and help sell my book, a dream come true in itself. Wolf House Fables is not just a fairy tale, it’s a handbook of hope for the future.
