Charlie and the Lost Fish
This 64-page graphic storybook tells the tale of a magical stuffed animal, a fish named Finn who, after being separated from Charlie, the little girl who owns him, embarks on an adventure of evolutionary proportions. Lost on a distant shore, Finn encounters three witches. Each uses her magic to sew and weave Finn a new body, making him better adapted to the challenges that lay ahead of him. Through their magical alterations, Finn changes from fish to lizard to mammal, going through all the stages of evolution until the final witch weaves his body into that of a cat. As a cat he’s brought to a family home where he meets… Charlie! and the two are reunited at last!

64My Why:
I’ve always been fascinated by the evolutionary “Tree of Life.” Though it is not visible to the naked eye, it is all around us. In fact, it IS us. I made CHARLIE AND THE LOST FISH to celebrate the beauty of this “Tree of Life.” My intention with this book isn’t to teach the reader everything about evolution, though all the science contained within its pages IS real, and has, in fact, been proof read by a paleontologist. No, my intention is to help my readers learn to love the “Tree of life:” To see themselves, their fellow humans, their fellow animals as brothers and sisters and cousins, and to see the interconnected web that exists between these life-forms as beautiful, life-affirming and even magical.
