Sunny and Luna: The Best Birthday Ever
It’s Luna’s birthday but Sunny is worried- Luna doesn’t seem to be celebrating! Sunny to the rescue! With her enthusiasm and exhuberant energy nothing is too hard for her best-friend’s big day: music, decorations, cake and of course A BAJILLION BALOONS! Sunny even makes sure there is a massive crowd of friends to make Luna the centre of attention as they all sing in her honour. But when Luna’s reaction to all of this spectacular- specialness isn’t what Sunny anticipates, she is forced to recognise that her perfect birthday might not be Luna’s perfect birthday. A fun, odd-couple style exploration of difference and friendship perfect for fans of Bluey books and Bobo and Pup-Pup from an AuDHD author.

My Why:
I grew up in Tasmania as the daughter of a forester, surrounded by rugged landscapes, strong community and fascinating wildlife. These elements shape Squiggly Gum Elementary. Now, as an AuDHD creator raising neurodivergent children in this age group, I see firsthand how kids navigate friendship, sensory needs and self-advocacy. I want children to recognise themselves and their friends on the page and present positive images of different ways of being, communicating and celebrating milestones. My goal is to help young readers feel seen, valued and empowered while laughing alongside characters who reflect the rich variety of real childhood experiences. Difference is cool but knowing ourselves is crucial.
