Ara, Daughter of the Night.
A mother leaves her baby beneath the moon and stars. The sky debates her fate, but the Moon takes her into custody and names her Ara, Daughter of the Night. Ara grows alone in a world without day. When she longs for light, the Moon breaks a fragment of herself, sending a white quartz, revealing her first glimpse of color. During an eclipse, the Moon asks the Sun for a fragment of his light. A golden quartz falls. With white and gold united, the world opens in color. Ara meets Draco and no longer feels alone. But Draco is a shooting star and must depart. As he fades, the world turns gray again, and Ara is left in sorrow. Guided inward, she discovers the light she sought was inside her all along. From love we come, and to love we return.

Fantasy, Mythology/FolklorePage Count Estimate:
Approx. 40–52 pagesMy Why:
Ara was born from my own story. One day, my mother had decided she would not continue her pregnancy. She was young and afraid after a difficult day at work with no money. That afternoon, a homeless man told her she would be blessed. By night, her situation changed. Beneath a great moon, she chose to have me and entrusted me to the Moon and stars for protection, though she did not know how she would raise me alone.
With time, I understood it was not abandonment, but love. I wrote this story for young readers who may feel alone or uncertain. Even in darkness, there is light. Life is a gift, and there is always something to be grateful for.
