LYKA
Lyka is a ten-year-old girl who lives with her family in a secluded city where humanity desperately tries to protect itself against a toxic, fungal-infested earth. Her father works in a factory, but his asthma worsens every day. Lyka worries for her father's well-being while tagging along with him to the factory. She finds a mysterious book tossed aside by two factory workers being interrogated by a Peacekeeper soldier. As she reads it, she finds it's about medicinal plants with one plant, being able to treat asthma. But the plant grows in the farthest region outside of the city, far beyond everything she knows...
Age Range:
Middle Grade, Young AdultGenre:
Adventure, DystopianPage Count Estimate:
250-300My Why:
I created this project because of my love for the post-apocalyptic genre, but also because I wanted to explore how children would feel growing up in such a hostile environment. I also wanted to focus on how powerful the love a child has for their family and the lengths they would go to help them.
