The Weather Girls

The Weather Girls explores the fun, creativity, and chaos of growing up in a media-rich world, with a crew of plucky little make-believe media moguls determined to rule the Santa Monica local news market. Each chapter explores the behind-the-scenes mischief of an episode of the The Weather Girls’ imaginary TV broadcast. The series celebrates grit, entrepreneurism, and the magic that transpires when kids feel empowered to do things all by themselves.

My Why:

The most lasting memories from my childhood come from the VHS videotapes my sisters and I filmed obsessively throughout the 80s and 90s. We called ourselves The Weather Girls, and started each episode with a brief weather report, which quickly spiraled into chaos, nonsense and pageantry. Now as a parent of two little girls, I realize they're growing up in a complex digital media environment that I never had to deal with. I hope that The Weather Girls will help guide them toward a healthy relationship with performance and social media, and show them the value of creating positive content to tell their stories and express themselves, without worrying about the Likes, Follows and feedback of today's media engine.
