Crin and Iggy: With a Little Help from Our Friends -A Friendship Rocks Story
Crin, a highly sensitive sedimentary rock, and Iggy, a gregarious igneous rock have been best friends since Pebblegarten. Crin wakes on the wrong side of the bedrock and continues to feel worse as more things go wrong. Iggy’s enthusiasm and gift blow the rockies away. The pair spend the day figuring out how to swim – um skip, sink and float. Iggy invites Crin for a sleepover, but they both have their own rockies to face including Iggy’s fear of storms. With a little help from Rocky Road ice cream and an uplifting friendship, they both wake with happy faces in the morning.

I grew up playing on the rocky shores of Lake Michigan and spent hours collecting, painting, and skipping rocks. My one and only science fair project was about rocks and their identification. While I didn’t become a geologist, I have never lost my love of rocks.
I shared a Kindness Rocks story with Debbie Ohi at the 2020 Highlights Foundation Inspiration and Perspiration workshop. Debbie gave me great feedback. During a break, I went to the beach and happened upon a frumpy faced rock. This was the moment I found a new way to tell my story.
As a person who is highly sensitive and has ADHD, I resonate with both Crin and Iggy. It’s easy for me to feel the rockies, but when a friend shows up, I’m able to reclaim my optimistic self.
