Luna Lily
"Plant Nerd" Lily hates being teased at school for her parents' dorky occupations as Mother Nature and Man in the Moon at their nature and science theme park. But when an encounter with the school bully unlocks Lily's hidden powers, she realizes her parents aren't pretending. Even worse, a billionaire villain finds out too, and now he's on the hunt for Lily's mom and her precious locket containing the Earth Stone, an object so powerful it can transform the world for better or worse. If that is not enough, aliens from the Moon arrest her father for stealing an alien spaceship that he'd kept hidden on their property for ages. With her loyal dog and a trusted robot pilot, Lily must save her family and the world from those out to exploit them.

Adventure, Animals, Conservation & Environment, Fantasy, Fiction, Science FictionPage Count Estimate:
165-180 pagesMy Why:
LUNA LILY, a 165-page middle-grade sci-fi/nature fantasy. I wanted to give young readers (9-12) a character that LOVES plants and animals and thinks about helping our planet. Think Greta Thunberg having Mother Nature’s superpowers, and you get the idea. I have children, so I worry (all the time) about the world we are leaving them. My story is not dour. It contains oodles of hope, humor, heart, and robots (so many robots). My main reason for making this story is to create a classic that inspires young readers and someday share their reactions. I see my novel sitting comfortably on the bookshelf beside The Last Wild by Piers Torday, Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, LightFall by Tim Probert, and Cleopatra in Space by Mike Maihack.
