High Above the Riverglass
In all twelve years of her hidden heir existence, Claris is very good at being invisible and silently honing her glass magic. When a secret friend discovers that Claris has the key to the sealed kingdom and betrays her identity to rogue knights who kidnap her mother, she is transported into the kingdom through the last of her mother’s magic for her protection. Transformed into a cat, Claris rediscovers her heritage amongst carefree palacefolks enchanted with anterograde amnesia. As the outside world continues to sink with corrupted Riverglass, and with her mother’s life at stake, Claris must choose whether to protect the peaceful residents of her rightful home or join forces with the invaders to restore the magic balance.

300My Why:
As my parents grow older and become open to sharing more of their past and experiences, I’ve come to realize that they have shielded me from generational trauma and family drama that are now slowly but surely resurfacing. Armed with broken Mandarin but a strong desire to understand my culture, I am now navigating through my parents’ histories and their sometimes confusing beliefs and values. Through Claris' story, I encourage my present and future self, my son, and those growing up in diaspora families that even though the journey may be difficult and there may be more questions raised than answers, it is never too late to return and rediscover the heritage left behind.
