Twigs and Leaf
Twigs loves science. Leaf loves art. Together, they love asking big questions! Meet Twigs and Leaf, two best friends who really enjoy nature. When they set out to share the story of naturalist and illustrator Maria S. Merian, their lesson is unexpectedly interrupted by a strange flea who leads them toward an even bigger mystery. With detective hats on, they launch a silly Sherlock-style investigation to solve one puzzling case: Where do butterflies come from? Along the way, surprise dance breaks (thanks to their friend Dance Break!) add playful moments of movement and laughter. Through humorous comic-style adventures, Twigs and Leaf celebrate friendship, creativity, and ecology, inviting young readers to explore and discover nature’s magic.

I believe that children who experience joy and familiarity with nature are more likely to care for it as they grow. I created Twigs and Leaf to bring that sense of wonder to my own early reader and other kids through playful adventures.
During school visits, Earth Day events, and sustainability education trips to villages in the Amazon rainforest, I’ve seen how excited kids become when they’re invited to ask big questions about nature. This book mixes science, art, and humor to show that curiosity is powerful and nature is fun.
