Rinse And Repeat
Quinn hasn’t seen her mother since she moved away a year ago, leaving her with her single-father and a storm of unresolved emotions on her first day of highschool. Accidentally stumbling on her mother’s dusty old film camera gives her a chance to finally have her questions answered, as she enlists the help of darkroom-extraordinaire Bebe to uncover the forgotten photographs in the camera. In seeking closure from old memories, she begins to capture new ones with Bebe- as unexpected feelings blossom and reveal more about herself and her family than she anticipated.

I think it’s important to have queer representation in coming of age love stories. Not only romantic, but in that mother-daughter bond that shapes us before we even learn the word “queer.”
Rinse and Repeat is inspired by my experiences in highschool navigating the unresolved grief and questions I had after my own mother moved back to Ukraine. Seeking closure often means opening up a new chapter of your life- and sometimes needing to find that closure within yourself when you can’t find the answers you’re looking for.
Amelie Shypilova
Hey! I’m Amelie Shypilova (she/they) and I’m a cartoonist from Vancouver, BC. I write and draw comics and children’s books, where I’ve been self-publishing my comics for the past few years. My work is all about quirky characters with swooshy hair and piercings, but I strive to tell nuanced stories based on themes close to my heart- such as queer identity, mental health, and growing up.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration at Emily Carr University.
